Cardinal Glennon PICU Rates Best in Missouri, Among Best in the Country

The Consumer Reports story titled "Dangerous infections are more likely in pediatric units" reports an investigative study by Consumer Reports Health Rating Center. Sample and findings:

92 pediatric ICUs in 31 states and DC
Year group 2010
Data source: Leap Frog (voluntary reporting)
Limited analysis to hospitals with large enough samples to yield statistically meaningful results
Compared hospitals that treat sickest patients in their regions
Average of 1.8/1000 days on the lines = 20% higher than national rates for adults (1.5 per 1000 in 2009)
Some PICUs had rates as high as 7.2, more than 4 times national average
