Pediatric Neurology Department at
SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.
The Neurology Department at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center specializes in diagnosing and medically treating diseases of the nervous system, brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.
As the nervous system is naturally very complex, the work of the Neurology Department often overlaps with other areas of medicine. We work closely with the other specialists and departments to make sure your child receives the most comprehensive care possible.
Preparing for Your Visit
There are a few things you should know before your child’s first visit to the Neurology Department.
Patients must be referred to Cardinal Glennon’s neurologists by another physician, usually your child's pediatrician.
It's important to become familiar with your child's symptoms and to discuss them with his or her pediatrician. To make sure that nothing is forgotten the day of your visit, develop questions with your pediatrician ahead of time.
Be sure to have your child's full medical record faxed to the neurologist. This includes any and all previous testing and treatments your child has undergone. The fax number to the Neurology Deparment is 314-268-6411.
Be prepared to share with the neurologist, any family history regarding nervous system conditions or symptoms similar to those your child is experiencing.
If this is going to be your first visit, please print, fill out, and bring this New Patient Questionnaire to your visit.
What to Expect
Your first visit involves two steps:
- We will review and discuss your child’s medical history and records.
- We will perform a physical exam and assessment to determine your child's condition
Results from the exam and assessment may determine further testing and treatments. Depending on the nature of the condition, a variety of tests may be administered to pinpoint the exact cause. These tests can include:
|| EMG/NCV |
|| Lumbar puncture|
| Evoked potentials
|| Digital imaging|
Should your child require any of these tests, more information will be provided when the test is scheduled.
Some of the other departments we may work with for your child's care are:
