Step 5: Rest and Recovery

After you have recovered from anesthesia, you will be taken to the Obstetrics Floor on the fifth floor of the hospital. For three to five days you will be monitored as you and your baby recover. We will make sure there are no signs of pre-term labor, that fetal heart tones are okay and that your pain is under control.  Ultrasounds will be performed immediately following the procedure, daily and before you are discharged.

For the next two weeks you will remain in St. Louis so any complications can be ruled out. If you and your baby are doing well you will be able to go home. We will work with you and your obstetrician to ensure the health and safety of you and your baby for the remainder of your pregnancy and for the delivery of your baby.

At 32-weeks gestation you will need to visit the Fetal Care Institute for a follow-up and ultrasound and MRI. A cesarean section will be scheduled at St. Mary’s or your home hospital.
