Step 3: Preparing for Surgery

If you are eligible, and you and your family decide it is the right option for you, surgery will be scheduled. We will review pre-operative instructions and finalize consent forms. You will have blood work done at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center and meet with the maternal anesthesia team.

The night before, and morning of surgery you will need to shower with Hibiclens, an antiseptic antimicrobial skin cleanser that we will provide for you. Hibiclens helps reduce the chance of infection. You will not be able to eat or drink anything for the eight hours before your surgery.
