Step 2: Visit With The Team

During your first visit to the St. Louis Fetal Care Institute you will have a number of non-invasive tests and consultations to provide the team with the information they will need to help you and your baby. Our nurses will schedule your entire day for you and if time allows, a copy of your schedule will be sent to you prior to your appointment.

When you arrive you will receive a special journal you can use to take notes and collect information. If you can, it is always a good idea to bring a family member or close friend with you on this day. Some families find it helpful to also bring a parent or sibling along who can help ask questions, and absorb some of the information presented throughout the day.

We encourage all of our patients to ask as many questions as they have, and to always ask for more clarification if they do not understand something.

Throughout the day you can expect to meet with a:

• Maternal-fetal medicine specialist
• Fetal Care Institute nurse coordinator
• Pediatric neurosurgeon
• Neonatologist
• Fetal Care Institute social worker
• Fetal Care Institute geneticist
• Footprints team member
• Spina Bifida clinic nurse
• Urology clinical nurse

We will perform a fetal MRI, ultrasound and echocardiogram to ensure we have all of the information needed to help you and your family make the best decision for your baby.

At the end of the day we have a wrap-up session which is a group consultation with many of the people you met with throughout the day. This is an opportunity to learn more about your case and review what you have learned. And, of course, to address any unanswered questions.

We are available 24 hours a day to help you!
