The Footprints team provides an extra layer of emotional, spiritual and psychosocial support to all of our SSM Health St. Louis Fetal Care Institute families. A new baby is an emotional experience and with the special situations many of our families face they often find this extra level of support is extremely helpful throughout the pregnancy and beyond.
The Footprints team serves as an advocate and support system for our mothers, babies, and families, provides tours of different areas of the hospital that families may utilize such as the Dana Brown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and assists with the development of delivery plans.
“No family needs to go through this experience alone. Our team is here to support you and your family through your pregnancy and beyond,” says Kathy Keenoy, who is a nurse with Footprints.
The Footprints team listens to families' concerns and wishes and facilitates communication with medical, nursing and supportive services to ensure family goals, concerns and wishes are honored.
Footprints also coordinates resources and care with the Social Services team to make sure you and your family are supported every step of the way. Bereavement and other emotional support services are also available.
Some families who visit the Fetal Care Institute are facing complex medical decisions. For these families, the Footprints team can help create an Advanced Care Plan, which outlines a patient and family’s wishes and treatment goals.
