The team at the Fetal Heart Program partners with referring physicians to ensure the best care possible for all patients. Fetal care nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (314) 268-4037 to discuss a patient’s case and help begin her care coordination.
Upon referral, the team requests copies of the patient’s prenatal records and all diagnostic images. If a patient is currently under the care of a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist (MFM), and/or a pediatric cardiologist, the team at the Fetal Heart Program can assist with care coordination.
This coordination allows for a partnership between the patient’s current care team, and the fetal cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery teams at SSM Cardinal Glennon, resulting in exceptional care for every patient. Families also have the chance to become familiar with Cardinal Glennon and prepare for their baby’s surgery if needed.
If a patient does not have a maternal fetal medicine specialist, or cardiologist, the team will work with the family and referring physicians to ensure a care team is established for her. Communication is key, and the team ensures referring physicians are informed and part of the decision making process for each patient.
