The following are some of the conditions which impact the lungs and heart:

Bronchopulmonary Sequestration

-A piece of lung tissue that develops without being connected to the airways.

 

Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation (CCAM) / Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformation (CPAM)

-A cystic mass which forms within the lung tissue.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH)

- When the diaphragm does not form properly the contents of the abdomen develop inside the chest cavity, preventing the lungs from properly developing.

 

Congenital Heart Defects

-A problem with the structure of the heart present at birth.

 

Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS)

-When the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped.

 

Lung Masses

-When a structural problem occurs during lung development, causing a mass to form.

 

Pleural Effusion

-A buildup of fluid in the chest that compresses the lungs.

 

Pulmonary Hypoplasia

- When the lungs are abnormally small, and do not have enough tissue and blood flow to allow the baby to breathe on his or her own.
