Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. (LSEM) provides free civil legal assistance to elderly and low-income people in 21 counties in eastern Missouri. Clients must meet eligibility guidelines to qualify for assistance and should call the LSEM office to discuss their legal problems.
Counties served include Adair, Clark, Franklin, Jefferson, Knox, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby, St. Charles, St. Louis, St. Louis City, Warren, Washington.
Children’s Legal Alliance/Education Advocacy: Provides free educational advocacy to qualifying children with special needs (disabilities, unmet mental health needs, etc.) who are not receiving appropriate educational services or who have been illegally or improperly excluded from school. Children’s Health Advocacy Project: Helps low-income patients navigate the complex government and community systems to ensure the basic needs of the child and family are met.
Health and Welfare: Provides assistance to low-income individuals in need of health care, income support, food assistance, and critical work supports. In specific, this program assists children, families and pregnant women who are eligible for Missouri's Medicaid program and are experiencing difficulty obtaining or maintaining their health care coverage.
Family/Lasting Solutions: Assists clients who seek a lasting solution to ending the problem of family violence in their lives. Also provides counsel in a variety of domestic cases including orders of protection, dissolution of marriage, modifications, paternity establishments, and child custody cases.
Housing: Represents low-income clients in all housing matters including landlord tenant disputes, subsidized housing issues, fair housing issues, and home ownership matters.
Family Court Project: Represents parents and others who are parties in the child welfare system and whose custody and parental rights are at stake.
