Required materials

Please go to aap.org/bookstore or see below for ordering information.

With the release of the 6th edition material, the Neonatal Resuscitation Program is raising the bar for Providers and Instructors. The new education model is much different than what learners and instructors have experienced in the past. The format now requires learners to study the material from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition, and take the online examination before attending their NRP course. The new NRP course is more interactive & includes little or no lecture about the textbook content, uses course time for skills stations and supervised practice, and uses simulation and debriefing as an important part of the learning experience.

Following the same methodology, the revised NRP Instructor curriculum moves the course away from a lecture-base format to an interactive, hands-on, team-oriented environment. A component of the new curriculum requires the instructor candidate to self-study prior to the course and to complete the following course prerequisites:

  • Self-study the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition
  • Take and pass the NRP online examination, Lessons 1 through 9, during the 30 days
    before
    the Instructor Course
  • View the NRP Instructor DVD: An Interactive Tool for Facilitation of Simulation-based Learning during the 30 days before the Instructor Course
  • Self-study/review the Instructor Manual for Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition

The day of the course is dedicated to the following components:

  • Review of Key Points in the Instructor Manual for Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Skills Review and Practice
  • Administration of Performance Skills Stations and Performance Checklists.
  • Administration of Integrated Skills Station Checklists.
  • Facilitation of Simulation and Debriefing.

The instructor candidate will be required to purchase the material for the course directly from the Neonatal Resuscitation Program/American Academy of Pediatrics. Material can be ordered online at the American Academy of Pediatrics book store at aap.org/bookstore.

Materials needed for Instructor Course:

  • Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition
  • Instructor Manual for Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition
  • NRP Instructor DVD: An Interactive Tool for Facilitation of Simulation-based Learning
  • NRP online examination (testing via HealthStream Learning Center).
