Preparing for the Unexpected 

An emergency childbirth workshop for EMS and ER personnel

Program description

This program was developed to meet the needs of health care professionals confronted
with an unexpected, emergent birth, subsequent neonatal care and stabilization in a non-obstetric setting.

Primary audience

Emergency medical transportation professionals, ER nurses and allied health professionals, especially in a hospital without obstetrics (OB) services are the primary audience for this courss.

Continuing education credits

SSM Health Care is an approved provider of continuing EMS Education by the State of Missouri Bureau of EMS with 6.75 contact hours approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center are approved providers of continuing nursing education by the Missouri Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This program has been approved for 6.75 contact hours.

The Southern Illinois Perinatal Program is administered through SSM Cardinal Glennon  Children’s Medical Center and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center.

Missouri and southern Illinois. The institutions are affiliated with Saint Louis University School of Medicine and School of Nursing and are committed to teaching, research and the
