St. Louis Crisis Nursery 

The St. Louis Crisis Nursery is committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect and provides emergency intervention, respite care and support to families in crisis through:

• Short-term care for young children in a safe and nurturing environment
• Helping families resolve crisis
• Offering resources for empowerment, ongoing support and parent education.
• Community outreach and awareness
• Advocacy for children and families

St. Louis is an independent, not-for-profit agency funded by donations and committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing short-term, emergency shelter for children, birth through age 12, whose families are faced with emergencies or who are in crisis.  Some reasons children are brought to the shelter:

• Overwhelming parental stress
• Parental or sibling illness or death
• Lack of utilities, food or shelter
• Domestic violence
• Other emergency situations which jeopardize the safety and well-being of the child and necessitate temporary parent-child separation.

While at the nursery, children can receive:

• 24-hour care by trained staff and volunteers
• Medical exam by a physician
• Developmental assessment
• Therapeutic activities developed for each child’s specific situation and needs
• Art activities
• Any needed medication: prescribed by a physician, or over-the-counter
• Three well-balanced meals and three snacks each day
