In Public Relations and Marketing at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, our focus has always been on our patients and families.
As liaisons between the hospital and the public media, we strive to ensure that each family's privacy and confidentiality is respected and maintained.
We serve families in part by following guidelines from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

Our Services
At Cardinal Glennon, we publicize over 500 news stories each year, sharing the heroic and often miraculous success stories of our patients and their families overcoming medical odds.
Unless a patient declines putting his or her information in the Cardinal Glennon directory, commonly known as "opting-out," the following information may be included and available to the public media:
Name
Location in hospital
Condition (described in general terms)
Religious affiliation
If a member of the media contacts us about the condition of a patient, we disclose information only after the patient's family agrees and signs a written consent form. Even if a patient or family member gives a reporter information, we cannot disclose any information unless given permission to do so by the patient or his/her legal guardian.
Due to increased security, health considerations and patient privacy, members of the media will not be allowed in the medical center without being escorted by a member of the Public Relations staff or other administrative personnel.
