We treat your child with increased understanding and access to resources

At the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center, we are dedicated to treating your child with access to a wide range of specialties through our affiliations with Saint Louis University School of Medicine and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

For the majority of children diagnosed with developmental disabilities, the rapid response of appropriate educational and medical goals has the potential to impact significantly on the child’s future functionality.

Our increased understanding of the complex function of the brain and recognition of specific diagnosis over the last two decades allow us to identify a child’s developmental disorder earlier than ever. As a result, we can begin implementing appropriate educational and rehabilitation programs more quickly, enabling the child to live life to the fullest of his or her capabilities.

A Special Place for Children

Children here are surrounded by a caring staff that understands their unique needs and challenges, and works closely with their school and primary care physician to coordinate all aspects of care.

Parents may refer a child ages 0-18, or the child may be referred by his or her school, social service agency, health care system or early intervention program.

After a child is referred, the parent, and school if applicable, will receive a packet to complete and return on the child’s developmental, medical, family and social history.

The initial evaluation involves a complete history, physical exam and developmental testing. The developmental physician will also meet with the family to discuss their child’s diagnosis, the implications and a suggested course of treatment.

Follow up visits are tailored to each individual family and patient’s needs, and are coordinated with the child’s school and primary care physician.

Our Team

The Knights of Columbus Developmental Center’s trained professionals help create your child’s subspecialty “medical home.” The first point of contact for referrals and appointments is our clinic coordinator.

The center also is staffed by two fellowship-trained developmental pediatricians on faculty at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. The developmental pediatricians are trained in caring for children with a spectrum of developmental disabilities, and are well-versed in the medical and educational challenges that face these children. They work closely with your child’s school and community to coordinate care.

Our developmental therapist works with children ages 3 and younger who are enrolled in the Illinois Early Intervention System. Your child is referred to us by his or her service coordinator if the IFSP team determines a medical diagnostic evaluation would be helpful.
