National Poison Prevention Week

National Poison Prevention Week was March 15-21, 2009. At the Missouri Regional Poison Center and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, we want to keep your children safe.  Below are some activities that took place in March:

 

 A new brochure, "Taking Your Medication Correctly," was distributed throughout all the
       local and regional Schnucks grocery stores.

 March 11th - Governor Jay Nixon signed the proclamation for Poison Prevention Week.

 St. Louis City and County schools (public and private) taught poison prevention lessons
       Many of these students entered the Missouri Regional Poison Center's annual
       poster contest:

        March 12th - Anthony Scalzo, M.D.,  Al Wiman and Laurie Waters judged the posters.

        March 16th - Anthony Scalzo, M.D., was on center stage at the St. Louis Science Center to 
              perform his "Nicotine Rap" (anti-smoking message) followed by the presentation of poster
              contest winners.

        The winning posters and honorable mentions were on display at the St. Louis Science 
              Center during Poison Prevention Week.

 Pre-pharmacy students at the University of Missouri-Columbia worked with the local
       Safe Kids Coalition to do poison prevention education in Columbia's elementary schools.

 The Springfield-Greene County Health Department distributed materials during Poison
        Prevention Week at a booth in the Discovery Center at the Springfield Children's Museum.

 Several public service announcements and radio interviews aired frequently during the entire
       month.
