Area children will benefit from a new partnership between retailer Kohl's Department Stores and the Safe Kids program at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.  Kohl's Safe Kids Safety Central will travel to area schools and events, offering children a fun and educational look at the dangers that lurk in every home.

"Accidents at home are a leading cause of serious injury and even death for children.  Poisons, heavy objects, falls and sharp objects all hold potential for hurting kids," said Douglas A. Ries, President of Cardinal Glennon, which sponsors the local coalition of Safe Kids Worldwide. "We're in the business of keeping children safe, and we're delighted to have such a dedicated partner in Kohl's Stores."

Kohl's donated $103,545 for the Safety House through its Kohl's Cares for Kidsâ program. The donation was announced in December, as Safety Central made its first stop at Wyman Elementary School in St. Louis.  The St. Louis Coalition of Safe Kids Worldwide will take Safety Central into the community to help children learn how to avoid household hazards.

"Kohl's introduced the Kohl's Cares for Kidsâ program to promote children's health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve," said Julie Gardner, senior vice president and chief brand officer of Kohl's Department Stores.  "We're proud of the partnerships we've created with children's hospitals across the country, and are excited to join Cardinal Glennon in this endeavor."

Kohl's commitment to Cardinal Glennon is made possible through the Kohl's Cares for Kidsâ program, which raises funds for children's health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items.  Net profits from the sales go to support children's health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl's.  Kohl's community outreach also includes Kohl's Kids Who Careâ, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.

Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl's is a family-focused, value-oriented specialty department store offering moderately priced, exclusive and national brand apparel, shoes, accessories, beauty and home products in an exciting shopping environment.  By the end of 2006, Kohl's will operate 817 stores in 45 states.  For a list of store locations and information, or for the added convenience of shopping online, visit Kohl's Web site at kohls.com.  In addition, Kohl's recently launched transformationnation.com, allowing customers to view the latest fall fashion essentials, interact with a virtual wardrobe planner and stay up-to-date on fashion trends.
