We need your help to let Congress know that poison center funding is a priority.
America's 57 poison centers suffered a federal funding cut of 36 percent in 2011. Further budget cuts will make it difficult for poison centers to continue to provide life-saving services to the American people.
The Missouri Poison Center at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center serves the entire state. More than 100,000 calls came in to the poison center in 2011.
Local poison centers respond to one call every 8 seconds -- that's more than 4 million calls every year. If your child swallows a button battery, if your elderly father takes the wrong medicine, or if your neighbor is overcome by toxic fumes, you can call the Poison Help line to reach the experts at your local poison center. Without poison centers, people who have a poisoning emergency will not have access to the free, confidential, expert medical advice provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.
Please let your representatives in Washington, D.C., know that you believe poison centers are vital and that you support funding to keep them running 24/7/365.
