The Gateway/St. Louis coalition of Reach Out and Read celebrated Read Across America Day March 2 with a professional storyteller, free books for kids and fun book-making activities.
In addition to celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Cat in the Hat, the event marked the first birthday for the local Reach Out and Read program, which includes more than 30 pediatric primary care clinics and has distributed 27,000 books to children in its first year alone.
