A patient's grandmother was inspired to put pen to paper after observing the exceptional care her granddaughter received from Donna Slenker, a nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at Cardinal Glennon.

Slenker won the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for March 2011.

The patient's grandmother wrote this of Slenker:

"Caring for my granddaughter as if she was her own.

Compassionate in her demeanor.

Attentive – good listener.

Encouraging me and family that our child is receiving the best care available.

Always supportive and answers questions without hesitation.

I have never received the attention and care as Donna provides."
