Medical Diagnostic Clinic

The Medical Diagnostic Clinic is a resource to help physicians identify the causes of uncharacteristic and uncommon health issues through extensive testing. In most cases, a child’s symptoms are a clear indicator of his or her of illness, and the direction of treatment is obvious to his or her physician. However, in some instances, the source of an ailment can be more difficult to identify.

Contact Us

Each appointment is individually arranged by the medical secretary, Adrinne White, who will contact you after receiving the referral from your child’s pediatrician.

To make an appointment, please have someone from your pediatrician's office call Adrinne at 314-268-4150.

Preparing For Your Visit

As patients of the Medical Diagnostic Clinic often have complicated illnesses, the physicians are very thorough with the examinations, and appointments may last up to two hours. They will take as much time as is needed to figure out what is causing your child’s symptoms. Sometimes this requires multiple visits.

It is often helpful to bring previous testing results or a CD with any digital images that have been taken of your child, such as MRIs, x-rays, and CT scans. Children commonly experience a failure to thrive, which means they do not follow the expected growth rate for their age. In those cases, we ask that you bring weight gain and linear growth charts to the appointment.

What to Expect From Your Visit

The consultation begins with a medical history report, which is followed by a general physical assessment. The results may require medical testing. Depending on the type of test issued, it may be arranged the same day of the appointment, scheduled for a later date, or completed by your child’s primary care doctor. Results may also warrant care with another medical department of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon.

The purpose of this clinic is not to issue treatment. Thus, the physicians in the Medical Diagnostic Clinic will make a recommendation to your child’s primary care physician after the examination, and he or she will discuss the proper path to care for your child with you.
