When you and your child visit the Dorothy and Larry Dallas Heart Center at Cardinal Glennon it will be helpful to remember the following. You can, of course, always call 314-577-5674 if you have any questions or concerns before or after your child's appointment.
Where to go
When you first enter the medical center, you will need to check in and get a visitor’s badge. Anyone over the age of 12 must get a photo ID visitor’s badge. If you’ve visited us before, you can provide your name and your badge will be printed.
You and your child can bypass the patient registration area in the atrium and head straight to the Dallas Heart Center for registration.
The Dallas Heart Center is located on the Ground Floor in the West Tower of the hospital. From the main entrance, walk through the atrium. Turn right past the Glennon Ambassador kiosk. Turn left about halfway down the hall toward the west tower elevators. Turn right at the elevators and you’re there.
The Dallas Heart Center shares the Ground Floor West Tower with the Imaging Center and the St. Louis Fetal Care Institute.
What to bring
Even if this is not your child’s first to the Dallas Heart Center, it’s important that we have the most current information in their medical record. Please bring your insurance information to every visit.
List of medications
It’s important to bring a list of all the medications your child is taking at the time of their appointment. This will included prescribed medicines as well as any over-the-counter medicines.
Any tests completed since last visit
Often when a child lives far from SSM Cardinal Glennon’s main campus in St. Louis, Missouri, they are able to get check-up labs done at locations close to home. Please bring a list of and the results of any lab work or imaging done in between appointments.
Co-payments are due at the time of your child’s appointment. SSM Health Care provides different levels of financial assistance if needed.
Quiet toys or comfort items
To save you trips to the hospital and because of the complex nature of congenital heart defects, your child’s appointments will often include more than one test and/or exam. This can sometimes make for a long visit. We do have some books and toys, but your child may be more at ease with a familiar quiet toy, book or blanket.
How long you’ll be here
When your child first comes to the Dallas Heart Center, we want to be as thorough as possible. This can include multiple diagnostic tests and physical exams. Please plan to be at the Dallas Heart Center for up to three (3) hours on your child’s first visit.
Follow-up visits don’t typically take as long as your child’s first visit. However, you may schedule multiple tests and exams during one visit. Your child’s visits are very important so please let us know how we can help.
