Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes

The SLUCare Physician Group pediatric endocrinology team at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital provides effective diagnosis, treatment, and lifestyle management for children with complex endocrine system disorders. Working together with specialists across a range of disciplines, our experienced endocrinologists combine clinical skill with a focus on your child’s long-term health, to deliver a continuity of care from infancy to pre-adulthood.

Conditions We Treat

The endocrine system regulates the body’s hormones in the bloodstream. When this system is out of balance, it can affect your child’s growth and development leading to different disorders including:

  • Diabetes (type 1 and type 2)
  • Adrenal gland disorders
  • Bone and mineral disorders
  • Obesity
  • Lipid disorders
  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia (type 1 and type 2)
  • Pituitary and puberty disorders

While there’s no magic cure for endocrine disorders, we offer the most advanced diagnostic tools and personalized treatment options. We help you understand these complex conditions while providing holistic care from your child’s first appointment through every step of their treatment.

Diabetes

We care for children who have Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, or less common forms of the disorder. Our approach involves guiding your child through diabetes management, in addition to nutritional practices to incorporate in your child’s everyday life. Our comprehensive include:

  • Educating your child to use continuous glucose monitoring systems and insulin pump therapy
  • Regular introductory classes for families to learn about insulin pumps
  • Diabetes Transition Program for older teens transitioning to adult care or college
  • An Impaired Glucose Tolerance Clinic emphasizing the importance of lifestyle changes
  • A Lipid Clinic offering both medication and nutritional therapies

Prader-Willi Syndrome

We offer a subspeciality Prader-Willi Syndrome Clinic, which sees patients monthly. Our team connects you with the latest research on the effects of growth hormone therapy in children diagnosed with this syndrome.

Turner Syndrome

A subspecialty clinic is available for girls diagnosed with Turner Syndrome. Because patients need ongoing medical care to monitor for development or medical problems. We coordinate referrals and care from multiple pediatric subspecialties. We also host “meet and greet’ events for girls and families to network and participate in social activities.
