Dr. Catherine Cibulskis

Physician
Biography

As the Fetal Care Institute’s neonatal liaison, Dr. Catherine Cibulskis works with the team to coordinate care with the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center neonatologists at Cardinal Glennon and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center.

Dr. Cibulskis often works with the Fetal Care Institute team to prepare delivery plans for babies who are expected to have a stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). “We know that there is a lot that happens in the development of the baby in the womb that greatly affects the baby's outcome. The more information we have about the baby's condition ahead of time, the better we can tailor care after they are born,” she says.

Dr. Cibulskis and the team of neonatologists are specialized in caring for complex and high-risk newborn cases. “Introducing a new baby to your lives is such an exciting time, but unfortunately it does not always go as planned.  We are here to help babies with that transition, and to support their families through this often stressful time,” says Dr. Cibulskis.

Dr. Cibulskis is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in neonatal-perinatal medicine and general pediatrics, and serves as an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She holds a B.A. with honors, and M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. She completed her pediatrics residency at Saint Louis Children’s Hospital, and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.

Dr. Cibulskis recommends patients ask a lot of questions when they visit with the Fetal Care Institute Team. “Ask whatever you are thinking, even if you think it is a ‘silly’ question - it isn't, and we will do the best we can to answer it for you.  Write down the answers, think about it at home, and then make a list of questions to bring back to your next visit or ask over the phone,” she says.

At SSM Cardinal Glennon Dr. Cibulskis serves as the Chair of the Neonatal Nutrition Committee, and is a certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program instructor. Her research efforts include methods to improve the long-term outcomes of babies who are discharged from the NICU, and providing proper nutrition for NICU babies.

Outside of work, Dr. Cibulskis enjoys spending time with her husband, two young children and their dog. She has a new found hobby of gardening and also enjoys cooking.
